Events Curbside Senior Expo Saturday, Aug. 15, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Seneca Volunteer Fire Department 3494 State Route 257, Seneca Because of COVID-19 and the need to socially distance, vendors will not be present at the event. Instead, seniors will pull into the parking lot and drive up to a table manned by my staff and me. They will be handed a bag of information from my office in addition to the information provided by vendors. Information will be shared about assisted living facilities, utility options, older adult services available in the county and Medicare plans available for seniors, as well as general health and wellness information. There is no need to RSVP to the event. However, seniors who have questions about the expo are encouraged to call the district office at 814-677-6413. Veterans Outreach Hours In a partnership with the Pennsylvania American Legion, I will be offering veterans affairs outreach hours in the district office at 3220 State Route 257, Suite 8, Seneca, on the third Tuesday of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 2020 dates include: Aug. 18 Sept. 15 Oct. 20 Nov. 17 Dec. 15 A service officer from the American Legion will be available to assist veterans with a variety of issues, including: • VA claims for disability compensation • Disability increase and rating decision appeals. • Veteran or surviving spouse pension. • Burial and death benefits • Addition of dependents. • Dependency and indemnity compensation • Other veterans' benefits. Veterans do not need to be a member of the American Legion to receive these services. While the service is free, appointments are required. Interested participants are asked to call the district office at 814-677-6413 so their names and phone numbers can be shared with the field service officer, who will contact them to make an appointment.
