James Announces $115,000 in State Grant Funding Allocated to 64th District
June 5, 2025
HARRISBURG – Rep. Lee James (R-Venango/Crawford) announced the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) awarded $115,000 to be used toward two Venango County construction projects.
Venango County is receiving $100,000 to replace the courthouse roof with a new, historically sensitive slate tile. Built in 1868, the courthouse serves as the working home of the county government. It’s estimated the roof tile is 120 years old.
The remaining $15,000 is heading to the Oil City Civic Center to install a new camera system that allows the Oil City Police Department to monitor the building in real-time. Local officials indicated there has been an increase in break-ins and vandalism due to inadequate security measures, which spurred them to advocate for this funding.
“I want to commend everyone for their unwavering dedication and tireless efforts to address the most pressing needs when it comes to preserving our history,” said James. “Their commitment to service and responsiveness continues to make a meaningful difference for Venango County residents.”
The money came from PHMC’s Keystone Historic Preservation Construction Grant Program. The program provides general operating support to Pennsylvania museums and historical societies not directly supported by other state programs. Grants were awarded using a formula based on a percentage of each organization’s annual operating budget.
