SENECA – Rep. Lee James (R-Venango/Butler) today announced two Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) grants for the Erie to Pittsburgh Trail Alliance and the Oil Region Alliance of Business, Industry and Tourism.

The $70,000 grant for the trail alliance will be used to coordinate and fund trail development, capacity building, training and administrative support for the Erie to Pittsburgh Trail.

The $228,750 grant for the Oil Region Alliance of Business, Industry and Tourism will help with management of the heritage area and heritage area initiatives; installation of signage along the Allegheny Wild and Scenic River; complete phase IV rehabilitation of the Scheide House in Titusville City and the final phase of rehabilitation of the Downs Building in Oil City; and installation of a new community gateway into Titusville City.

“We live in an area with a rich history that many people are working diligently to preserve. Special thanks to everyone at the Oil Region Alliance for their dedication. I know that their passion for our history benefits us all,” James said. “I also look forward to expanding our trail access, which will help draw more tourists to our area.”

The DCNR grant program is funded with a variety of state and federal funding sources including the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund, the Environmental Stewardship Fund, the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund, Pennsylvania Trails fund, Pennsylvania Heritage Area Program and the ATV Restricted Management Account Fund.
