SENECA – Following an announcement today by Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) Secretary Teresa Miller noting DHS plans to close Polk State Center in Venango County, state Rep. Lee James (R-Venango/Butler) issued the following statement:

“I’m disappointed about and disgusted with this announcement from the Department of Human Services. It’s truly sad to realize nearly 200 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are being pushed out of their home by a bunch of government bureaucrats.

“The tone of the announcement was almost heartless. In one breath, DHS talked about kicking nearly 200 people out of their home and in the next they called it ‘an incredible moment in our history in Pennsylvania.’ I don’t think any of these people or their families think this is incredible.

“I am committed to fight to give residents of Polk State Center and their families a voice in their futures as this process continues to unfold.”
