SENECA – Rep. Lee James (R-Venango/Butler) is hosting Property Tax/Rent Rebate Assistance Days to help people fill out the form for financial relief. The first opportunity will be Friday, Feb. 21, at the Franklin VFW,
411 9th St., Franklin, and the second date is Thursday, March 12, at the YWCA,
109 Central Ave., Oil City. Both dates will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
To qualify for a Property Tax/Rent Rebate, applicants must be a Pennsylvania resident; age 65 or older, a widow or widower age 50 or older, or a person with permanent disabilities age 18 or older; and a homeowner earning up to $35,000 annually or a renter earning up to $15,000 annually.
Required proof to bring to the assistance days includes:
•
Age. Accepted proof of age includes birth certificate, driver’s license or PennDOT identification card, PACE or PACENET card, or Medicare Card.
•
Rent or property taxes paid. For proof of taxes paid, receipted tax bills are required (no canceled checks) or a tax bill with a copy of the canceled check. For proof of rent, a rent certificate from the landlord or rent receipts signed by the landlord are required.
•
Proof of income for 2019.
“For adults on fixed incomes, paying property taxes can be a great concern. This program provides some much-needed relief, and I encourage anyone who would like some help applying to reach out to my staff,” James said. “No one should be intimidated by the paperwork.”
It is not necessary to RSVP to attend these events, but residents are encouraged to call the office at 814-677-6413 with any questions.
The Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program is one of five programs supported by the Pennsylvania Lottery. Since the program’s 1971 inception, older and disabled adults have received more than $6.9 billion in property tax and rent relief. The rebate program also receives funding from slots gaming.
